Trust In God

Trust isn't easy to come by but its one of the most important parts of our relationship with God.  When times are tough and things don't go our way, that's when we find it most difficult to trust God.  We sometimes doubt that God will come through for us, we lack faith in his promises, and we worry with throughts on our future.

It's simple its short yet its incredibly powerful  Proverbs 3: 5-6 is the most fimailar passages.  It sets forth a life-changing truth that is worthy of our attention.  After reading this see you will agree.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.  In all your ways anckowledge him, and he will direct your path.

Trust in the Lord

Any relationship starts with trust at some level.   God wants us to trust him when we are unsure of what to do.  God wants us to believe in his promises when we think things will get worse.  Trust in the Lord, however takes on entirely new demension.  This trust is an eternal, all-powerful, all-loving God who is so worthy of our trust.  This trust is important because of who he is, but because of the way we must trust him with all of our heart.  It evolves every fiber of our being.  That's the kind of trust to have in God an unshakeable, complete, deep abiding trust.

Proverbs 3: 5-6

"Trust In the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean to your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your path.

Don't Lean On Your Own Understanding

This verse involves a positive and a negative - - something we must and must not do.  Don't lean on your own understanding, Basically we must not become self-reliant.  We can not persue a course of action, a financial decision, a career choice, a business move, eductional choice simply because we think its good for us or it seems right. It must be founded in our trust.

Self-reliance is a deceptive trap we begin to pride ourselves into thinking that we don't need God .  We think that our look, our family, our intellect get's us the things we want or need.  And when we do, it takes away our trust in the Lord. It has then become trust in self.  This result isa dangerous compromise that leads to destruction.

Acknlowledge God.  In Everything

The remedy to self-relience is found in the first part of the verse.  "Trust in the Lord with all your heart"  Which is established in the next verse:  "In all your ways acknowledge him".  The word acknowledge means to accept or admit the existance or truth of.  It isn't merely a polite tip of the hat, or a few words of grace at every meal, or even our attendance at church to let him know we're cool with what He's doing it's so much more.  It's allowing him access, control, involvement  in all our ways.

What's the result of this?  Will God ruin our lives? Will he rob us of our fun?  The verse ends on a promise.  What is it?

He will make your paths straight.

The promise is in the form or compairson.  What does it mean to have straight paths?  First paths lead toward a a destination or end, a goal.  Trusting in God wholeheartedly in every area of our lves gives our lives a sense of purpose and priority.

Second it indicates that we have a clear understanding of what we are doing and where we are going.  It makes daily decision making less painful and easier.  We realize we are trusting God.  He in turn is making our paths straight.

Third,  the"straight paths" suggest moral purity a wholesome attitude, actions, and behavior.  That is the kind of life God promises.  Its the kind of life we can have.  It starts and ends with trust.  And acknowledging God in every way.
